  • Philly is literally a sea of red. Lots of Philly fever a few hours before game time tonight. Go Phils. #
  • @workhappynow To thy own self be true - William Shakespeare. #
  • @MissLynn13 I think you can selectively engage and give/get something out of it. But to reap the full rewards you need to immerse yourself. #
  • @MissLynn13 That is a great point. But it is a decision and there are pro’s and con’s regardless. Being up front about it is very important. #
  • @MissLynn13 I agree. I have pretty much given up any hope of privacy by taking part in the conversation. People need to make that decision. #
  • @MissLynn13 UGC/SMT is definitely that catalyst. Easy-to-use tech and self-forming groups are impacting the value prop that assns once had. #
  • @MissLynn13 I agree. The only thing that I can think of that will hasten the lessening of control is something that would threaten the assn. #
  • @MissLynn13 There are some, but not many. I know @bkmcae, @pinnovation, @maddiegrant, @lindydreyer may have some insight into that question. #
  • @MissLynn13 For it to work orgs will need to provide the platform and framework and let members bring the thoughts and ideas. That is value. #
  • @MissLynn13 The problem with OGC is that it’s really no different from what they have always done. Just a different medium. #
  • @MissLynn13 Organizations vis a vis their members can create UGC, but I don’t think orgs themselves can, that would be OGC (org gen content) #
  • @MissLynn13 I think many still fear the perception of chaos and loss of control instead of establishing the groundrules and letting it work. #
  • @MissLynn13 I think they will. Too many are just using it as an extension to their existing tools, not something new and engaging. #
  • @MissLynn13 that first line should have read: is more authentic when it is truly UGC as opposed to… #
  • @MissLynn13 I just think it is more authentic when it is truly UGC as organizationally sponsored or created content under the guise of UGC. #
  • @MissLynn13 I think it could. I see SM as more organic/grassroots as opposed to institutional. Not to say you can’t use it institutionally. #
  • @MissLynn13 I personally think that who the originator is and what purpose/intent is a key differentiator between what is UGC and what isn’t #
  • @MissLynn13 Learning content could be UGC. I think you touched on a key issue. Who is doing the content creation and for what reason? #
  • @MissLynn13 There is no doubt a social aspect but it’s definitely not the province of SMT only. After all most learning is social in nature. #

Just browsing after reading your wiki tips (part 1 and 2). “Easy-to-use tech and self-forming groups are impacting the value prop that assns once had” — I think there’s a lot to that. I’ve derived great value from professional associations in the past. In the last year, I’ve let two memberships lapse. I felt (feel?) a sense of loss, but the groups haven’t integrated much social technology, and I can’t afford to attend an out-of-town conference each year.
